In 2015 and 2016, in addition to the continuing survey, first excavations were conducted at some grave yards with tumuli and box graves. Additonally, small-scale excavations were conducted at so-called “gravel beds” (presumably camp structures) as well as several settlement sites in different parts of the Wadi Abu Dom. After finishing the survey, from 2017 on large-scale excavations were conducted, starting with the settlement site of El Tuweina. Since 2020, excavations are carried out around the oasis of El Rum, starting with the complex building of Umm Ruweim 1.
